Former Orange Park Mayor Cummings Seeks Commission Seat

ORANGE PARK – Republican Travis Cummings, MBA, is running to fill the Clay County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat.  Cummings has lived in Clay County nearly 30 years, graduating from Orange Park High School in 1990. 

Cummings, an independent financial services consultant, served on the Orange Park Town Council from 2002 to 2008, also serving as the youngest Mayor in Orange Park history in 2004.  His extensive accounting background and commitment to fiscal responsibility were demonstrated during his Council tenure when the town had its largest tax decrease.

During his tenure on the Town Council, Cummings served as the Chair of the Clay County Charter Review Commission, served on the County Transportation Advisory Commission and continues to work with Florida Department of Transportation, and the Town of Orange Park in addressing our crowded roads. 

“Clay County is a wonderful place to live,” said Cummings.  “The secret’s out.  That’s why I want to bring responsible management of our county growth, while addressing the very real traffic problems many residents face everyday.”

Cummings’ commitment to preserving the quality of life in Clay County extends to the St. Johns River. 

“The river is our greatest resource,” said Cummings, who supported a Town of Orange Park resolution designed to preserve the river quality.  “I’m just starting my family, and I want to ensure the river is as precious to my future children as it is to me.”  Cummings is engaged to another Orange Park High graduate, Jessica Cloutier.  The couple will be married in October.

One of Cummings greatest passions is his service as the Board Chairman for the Bob Dye Clay Family YMCA. 

“You always feel good when you are at the YMCA,” said Cummings.  “The YMCA communicates the core values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility, which cannot be overemphasized in society today.”

Cummings serves on the Clay County Tourism Development Council, graduated from the Northeast Florida Regional Leadership Academy, is participating in Leadership Florida, and is an active member of the Orange Park Sunrise Rotary Club.
